Paintings to Journals

these paintings are part of the assignment given us from Julie's and Chris's texture town class..

these pieces show the top 2 and the bottom left have layers and 1 glaze i left the 4th to show the dramatic difference each layer will make..

I have some glare here but this shows all my glazes in place and the texture layer added...where we were to enhance our texture with writing...i did 4 pieces because i decided that they will become journal covers...so 2 of each as close as possible textures and glaze applications

this one resembles slate to me...

so now i make signatures and then stitch them together with 2 journals for gifting..:)

I really like:
What view would you like to see from your bedroom window?and why?

So I thought I would think about it a moment here
and then journal the page
and show it when I am finished...

Thinking out loud...I would love to see a waterfall
(not a huge roaring one...a trickling one with some action, but not tons of action)
out my window...not necessarily the bedroom...

Waterfalls mean peaceful to me...
and
at the same time are energetic!
they are lush...with craggy spaces and a lot of times a cave!

In my cave I would have cool stuff ...like a table and chair/probably rocking chair...a lantern
a shelf with some inspirational books to look through when i visit...
a few supplies to art with...
and maybe a hammock...for a neato nap!

The doggies would love the pool at the bottom of the falls...so I would take them out with me when I went...and they would have some quality bonding time with me...

It would be a terrific picnicking spot too...the little ones would enjoy going there with granma...
and in the winter when the falls might freeze...(cause I don't have a roaring one)
wouldn't all that frozen glory be a sight!

How about it...are we up to see what each other might come up with...

Thursday...

Has been a busy day!

Here is a lesson using titan buff mixed with the paint palette
Notice how it softens the hue and gives it a grungy effect at the same time







Here is the sign crew...Craig's brother Billy in the plaid and Jack in the blue coat just arrived today

Here it is hung...it shrank some but it is still visible enough from the road as they pass by...I am standing in the road to take the picture.

Fuse update...everyone arrived at the same time and it was coincidentally the same moments apparently the glass was readiest to sag
I over sag the piece...if the ripple isn't too top heavy it will make an excellent tub
otherwise not so much it will be too tippy a tip jug...we shall see
it has to anneal 5 hours then tomorrow when it is totally cool I can open the kiln
another huge problem with an over sag is the possibility it won't come off the mold...
we shall see...

Journal Project pages

Two simple sketches reflecting nature...I seem to be stuck in that mode.


Suddenly it is...32 degrees

Book

This style book is learned from Julie Prichard's class. I liked it so well I made another.






It measures 51/2 x 81/2. With a mixture of collaged pages

and neutral painted pages for background beginnings


I kept the paints soft, but bright.












Here is a photo of the book standing open...(before the cover is added.

Collaging Backgrounds...

Collaging can be intimidating...especially when you are careful and exacting in placement...don't.
Pick some complimentary colors...texts what have you and glue it down.

These pages will become a journal...pretty cool if you ask me... I am being inspired by Julie from lost luggage...we take this journal to the next level when part 2 of the class come into play.

We decorate the pages journaling!

I only have 6 of the 12 pages side 1 finished for this afternoon....

Even after i loosened up it is still a fairly time consuming job...it will be worth it though!!!

Her book example is amazing!

I hope I didn't go to dark...I plan to have some lighter pages too to mix into each other.

Pilot Light

Milliande has a prompt for the Lighthouse, on her Ning, what it might symbolize, or mean.

I chose the Hatteras Light in Hatteras NC,USA.

Her life parallels to mine. She stood strong with her daily life struggles for over a hundred years. Helping to guide survivors and stave off ships to close the shoals. Then, due to external environmental conditions, they moved her inland.

Me too.

I moved inland to the Midwest. Escaping the external hazards of the horrendous crime and exorbitant VA common law tax.

Where my spirit is freer to roam without the crowds of neighbors (my closest neighbor is 2 miles in either direction!) A bit (but not by much) more reasonable tax structure, but they are trying to mimic their cousin states had as they can.

Some changes took awhile to adjust to...but on the whole the move was good.

Hatteras Light, no longer in operation, in order to remain intact needed to be moved...she endured the change and can remain a beacon of strength for admirers, who deem to research her history and legacy years to come.

Positive

Ever think about symbols, marks on the page and how a page winds around and ends.

I started my black white doodle page in kind of a grumpy mood. I had delivered my pieces to the pheasants forever chapter for the banquet tomorrow night. the next morning one of the members of the board arrived at the Creamery practically when i unlocked the door, but in actuality she waited maybe 3 minutes as I walked around the counter.

For anyone that isn't familiar with me I work with glass. The pieces ordered were for glass projects.

One project was a dog retrieving a pheasant.

Pheasants have long tails, so of course following the design as anatomically correct as possible the piece had a long glass tail. A feather, of the tail...meaning 1 piece long hanging from a HUGE area of glass the head of a dog...hence head end huge mass of glass feather end small.

Someone actually picked up this piece by the tail! Of course it broke.

She wanted to know...

what kind of glue I recommend to repair the glass.....GLUE!!!

NOT on a piece I signed...glue!

I fixed it and delivered it yesterday which is when I started my journal page...so

It started out about the above story about how i am not pleased ...blah blah...then I doodled some...and as I colored in some of the lace I decided to think of a positive thought as each little piece is colored to get myself away from being miffed..

and i gained some ground in reversing the negative charge ( - )

I kept pushing positive (+ ) through my messaging...as I wrapped the core message around the page "putting positive thoughts out into the universe and will only bring karma back that is...positive

It fit perfectly...'back' is the last word and 'positive' was the first word but the last word of that sentence for the message...did I loose you?

The symbol + means addition to... also represents the sign of the cross...a symbol for positive messaging universal in signals so strong that the message shines through for everyone...so think positive thoughts...they can only lead to lots and lots (that addition thing) of good
