Platters...

I tried photographing them with zero light and tipping the flash so it would go above the subject
I still have a little glare..

Here are both platters together this one shows the colors fairly well the colors are a little faded in the picture but this picture gives the best essence of the look.

These are not decals!

They are painted using finely crushed glass with the pigments of ores and minerals added for their color...fired in the high temps of the kiln to fuse the design to the substrate.

Labor intensive process not anything like using hobby paints that fire in the oven...more closely resembles glazing of ceramics.

Been Doing Lots

First of all I want to show you the coolest rock! You can see it there in the center it holds water...for the birds but
it also looks like door turned the other way and i might put it that way...not sure yet, i found it walking through the trees looking for antlers.


Here I am setting up to stain glass for a birth announcement box.
Everything is ready.
Palette for grinding the glass and mixing up the stain
and glass substrate to make my marks.










Here the feet are applied and ready to fire in the kiln.









This is the piece I prepared to place the feet over to fuse to creating the desired ordered border...ladybugs.










Here is the finished top. a few bubbles appeared but they are kinda cute so i am thinking this is a keeper. Next i make the box part.

Kiln Work

Yesterday I worked probably 4 hours making pieces to fuse in the kiln. I over fired and ruined the entire days effort. Today...I have this piece in the kiln firing. I wanted to make a note to myself that I did do something! I chipped several colors of glass and I am fusing them together for a slab that will probably become a platter. We will see how it does. Looks like a happy piece the other 3 pieces will be barrettes.
